Carciphona is a high fantasy webcomic/manga written, illustrated and published by me ^^ Set in an era where magic is forbidden, the story follows a young sorceress who, despite possessing more power than most could even dream of, could not grasp the simple peaceful life she longed for. But all this will change, whether she is ready for it or not. Start reading from the beginning.
so what helps you draw houses, especially the ones with detail. Like the panel in the top left. I always grab inspiration from somewhere, but the houses I draw seem to be lacking something, other than a point of perspective. Perhaps i need more practice? Well, anyways, that's why i'm asking you.
The environments and character designs look fab. as in fabulous.
it's best to use reference of a uniform style for your buildings; you need to know what style your town takes after (english country towns? oriental village? modern metropolis? aged metropolis? etc) and look for references for those. If you have the time, a little research on why the architecture is a certain way will help you tremendously in making the features you put on your buildings accurate and believable.
also try to build form and depth onto the sides/tops of your building, have protruding pillars/ridges or concave windows so that the faces of your buildings don't look flat.
lastly yes, taking the time to draw perspective lines--especially for scenes where there is more than 1 building--rather than freehanding it will make the spaces around the buildings make much more sense.
copying photos of building designs you like for practice while thinking of the above points critically will help you figure out for yourself how you would draw buildings that you are satisfied with
Try having a piece of paper and just draw lots of different elements and designs, like columns, things that goes on the side, ways to draw the stones, different shapes for houses; just all kinds of things, so you have a sheet of ideas for what to apply. Sounds like it's this kind of thing they lack?
