The judging was really hard because of a lot of entries that I wanted to put on the winning list (runner ups, mini prizes), but I had to eliminate things down to a reasonable amount or a) there wouldn't really be a winner and b) I'll die. (abstract means summary) This is a contest where you draw YOUR original characters (aka OC) to reflect this THEME: Transcendence. Why? Because DA has too much fanart. Ok I don’t really care that DA became a fanmonster, I just need something to occupy me and help me forget bad things so I don’t become a bipolar emofreak. Entries will be judged for quality and creativity in illustrating this theme, and a number of winners will be selected for prizes that I pull out of my pocket. If I get enough entries, I will consider doing different themes and maybe make an anthology out of the better entries to give to participants, since it is a lot of people’s dreams to have their art in print, but not many can afford compiling their own or has enough time to create enough works for their own book.

Help trick your friends into this. It’s easy! All you have to say is, “Hey, you should draw that chara of yours that you had been neglecting for the past 76 weeks again.” Srsly how often can you enter contests with something you were gonna draw on your own sooner or later? *lv.7 Salesmanship*





Theme for this round is TRANSCENDENCE. dictionary.com says: [link] and wikipedia says: [link] . If you aren't sure, I guess it basically means uberness, or the process of becoming more uber. Interpret this theme however you like as long as it comes across. Some generic examples would be (but not limited to):
» putting your OC in a grand setting
» giving your OC an elaborate “godmode” design
» illustrate a life-transforming experience for your OC, etc.





Characters you may use:

» a fellow Deviant‘s OC (ask for permission)

Q: What exactly qualifies as an OC?
A: Just for you sketchy people out there that want to make some absurd entry by getting around my wording, an OC qualifies as an OC for this contest if said character is able to uphold an active role if it were starring in a story. That means no silent cacti that has a cameo in the living room or a goldfish that is as smart as real life goldfish. It’s also better if it isn’t a random person you made up just for random Kimono Girl in speedpaint #42.
Q: Does the OC have to be in a story/a previous full CG/part of a webcomic? In short, how much work must I have done for the OC for it to qualify?
A: There is not really a minimum amount of work done for that OC. As long as it was created and used in some way by you for something before the launch of this contest, it's fine. If your OC is part of any of that, that's even better.
Q: Is it OK if the OC has already been drawn and submitted to DA before?
A: Yes. I was only talking about submitting the actual entry to DA. My only concern is people getting discouraged by seeing who they're competing against and not do it, which ruins the point of drawing your OCs
Q: What if the OC has nothing to do with "Transcendence"?
A: It's your job to be creative on what your character would do, wear, BE, in order to express this theme.
Q: Can we use charas inspired by this contest?
A: no you may not use a character that is made FOR this contest, unless this random character is not important, and the main figure of the image is a previously established chara.
Q: Can I do a sequence?
A: You can do anything as long as you fall within the rules. Meaning as long as the final entry does not become a coloured-comic-page of sorts, you can include different panels to illustrate your idea. If in doubt, send me a draft and I'll tell you yay or nay.
Q: If I've already started to sketch something before this contest (doesn't matter whether you've uploaded it to DA or not), can I still paint/CG/finish it and submit it as an entry?
A: If any part of the illustration was done before this contest, you canNOT use it for this contest. Again, I may not know and you might get away with it, so you decide what you want to do.
Q: What is the theme? What does that word mean? Do we just draw anything?
A: The theme is Transcendence. use dictionary.com for answers. You draw your character based on this theme.
Q: We can only submit after April 1st?
A: NO. You SEND YOUR ENTRY IN BY E-MAIL BEFORE DEADLINE. you CANNOT upload your piece to DA before the deadline; you can if you want to afterwards.

Does anyone know a good video screen capture program? I tried fraps but since I tried the trial first, the retail wouldn't work anymore, and I tried camstudio but when I record fullscreen, it's not smooth (a lil laggy)

Any good suggestions? I just want to record a video of a drawing process.
