as my mom is taiwanese and i live in canada, i have not learned to read or write chinese although i can understand and speak. but thats not really an excuse.... i have no idea about any of the simplified characters, but i can recognize some traditional ones~
my grandpa is Chinese well... Jamaican but his parents were Chinese so they taught him and he taught me just a little, can't say I know the language well enough, just enough to read the menu when I go to an authentic Chinese restaurant in China Town
I'm better at traditional. I mostly know simple characters and a few harder ones. I can speak Chinese, but end up mixing English in. m(__ __)m Awkward when my family notices my French and Japanese are so much better.
The options are a little too restrictive for me to answer, but I chose being able to read traditional over simplified Chinese. It's a bit of a stretch, though, as I have only over a school year of knowledge under my belt. That's likely not enough to comprehend a whole article, but I think I can figure it out via looking characters up on web dictionaries and such. I can speak the language as I am an American-born Chinese.
